UPDATE: State of the Texas Insurance Industry

We are writing to update you on the current state of the Texas insurance industry. The primary areas of interest are below:

  • Premiums are increasing across all carriers

  • The state of the national economy, inflation, and severe weather are drastically impacting premium

  • Some major carriers in Texas are no longer writing new business

  • Carriers are making demands of customers not previously seen in the Texas insurance market such as “self inspections” for our commercial clients via downloadable apps to your mobile device

  • All carriers are reviewing existing business and eliminating policies they deem inconsistent with their desired book of business

  • Do not let policies lapse without having a new policy in place (meaning you have passed inspections by the new carrier you chose & met all underwriting guidelines per the application requirements)

  • All carriers are being extremely selective about all new business they are willing to take on

  • Many carriers are requiring higher deductibles on homeowner’s policies… up to 2% and 3% of the limits on the full value of the home

  • Notify your insurance carrier immediately in the event of a loss

We are providing this update to give you some context for the changes we are seeing in the Texas insurance market. Here at Germer Insurance Services and Rucker-Ohlendorf Insurance, we are independent agencies with access to most major carriers in the country.

Please realize that we do not have control over carrier premiums, their operational processes or claims handling policies. The carrier is responsible for their interpretation of your policy. We do give a comprehensive overview of how any individual policy is set up with limits and coverages, but all losses are considered unique and are handled by carrier claims adjusters or independent adjusters. We are happy to shop your policy upon your request and many times we will reach out to you when we notice a drastic increase in your renewal premium (not all carriers notify us but many do).

We are happy to discuss your insurance options and appreciate your business and/or the opportunity to earn your business. Each of you is a valued and appreciated client or soon to become one. Visit us at any of our offices or by phone or email.

Sincerely,

The Germer Insurance Services & Rucker-Ohlendorf Insurance Teams
