Honor A Veteran

All of November, we honor those who have served our country. We're proud of them and so thankful they have made such profound sacrifices.

In honoring them, we can do more than just think nice thoughts, we can take it further and actively do things to show appreciation for what they have done and offer services to them and their families.

Here are just a few things you can do to honor a Veteran:

  1. Help to organize and attend a Veteran's Day Event. Veteran's Day is Wednesday, November 11th and there are virtual events taking place.

  2. Spend some time over a video chat app or on the phone with a Veteran - ask them about their time in the military, and really listen to the answer.

  3. Visit the gravesite of a Veteran.

  4. Provide a meal for a Veteran and their family. "Eat" with them virtually or with social distancing maintained.

  5. Write and send a letter to someone who’s currently serving in the military .

  6. Say a silent prayer for those who are serving.

  7. Volunteer to help a Veteran’s Service Organization (there are many!).

  8. Donate time, money and/or supplies to local Veterans Day drives or associations.

  9. Write in your journal how thankful you are for the service of Veterans.

  10. One of the most important things you can do is pick one or two of these and resolve to do them at least one time every month this next year when it’s NOT Veteran’s Day/Month.

In the San Marcos, Texas area, there are month long activities taking place to honor and celebrate our veterans. You can write a letter to a veteran living in a Texas State Veterans Home or nominate a veteran you know for the 2020 Grand Marshal. Find out more about how to get involved at the San Marcos Veterans Month of Service page here.
